Solved Opening DNG (RAW) format files in Irfanview

I have the v4.42 64bit (Win10) and only get the thumbnails for my (somewhat antique) Leica M-P Typ 240 camera. Can I open the DNG format in Irfanview in their full format?

Install the last version 4.58 and its plugins and try if you're not able to open DNG files in 4.42.
There are many flavours of RAW files. If you work with them regularly, and want to edit them, you may need to use a proper photo editor and not just an image viewer like IrfanView.

Did as told, restarted my PC, but did not solve the problem: still only thumbnails. Opening them in Photoshop is one-by-one, which is cumbersome in my digital workflow. I like to weed out obvious failures before working the DNG.files. Pity, I used Irfanview a lot the past 20 years, seems we've reached the end of the road here. I am sure there are Photo Viewers that will work, the DNG format is one of the oldest RAW formats.

IrfanView loads embedded thumbnails in the DNG files as default for quick preview. You may change the behavior in the Settings in the Plugins section.

Ah, that seemed to work, it was not a matter to tick a box but rather untick a box: 'try to load embedded preview image'. Thank you!
