    Zoom and Resample

    Hi,

I'm using 4.00 but I'm having this issue with 4.10 as well:

I have resampling enabled (View, Display Options) but realtime resampling when zooming in does not work. I only get a nice resampled picture when I crop. But I want it realtime when zooming, just like the default Windows Image Viewer.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance!

By the way: with zooming I mean using the mouse! So, selecting a rectangle and then click on it.

It seems as if resampling works when zooming with + and -.
Why not when using the mouse?

    Hey Bhikkhu,

    Thanks for combining my posts.
Maybe you know why resampling does not work when zooming in with the mouse? (selecting rectangle and then click)
Is there some way to enable that?

I searched the whole forum, also the yahoogroups, couldn't find an answer anywhere.

Try zooming with Control + Scrollwheel, with Fit Image to Window or Fit to desktop.

Thanks, but using CTRL+Scrollwheel is the same as pressing + and -.
I want to zoom directly to a selected area and then look at a resampled image.

Maybe this is not implemented because people might want to navigate to another area with the right mouse button ... the whole image would have to be resampled when zooming the first time and that could take too much time. Else you would have one little area resampled and the rest is still untouched, which would be OK though.

I don't know if you're close with the author but that might be a neat option to turn on/off.
'Resample when zooming to selected area' and/or 'Resample whole image'.

Zoom with the scroll wheel is not the same as zooming with the keypad. It is much more convenient if your hand is already on the mouse. Zoom in to the selected area, then zoom out one notch.

I find resampling causes real problems on many images. IV will slow to a crawl, freeze for a while, or lock up completely. I think the current method of turning off resampling is right because with zoom to selection you can zoom in 3,000% or more and this can cause big problems even on a small image.

I think the zoom features needs a bit of rewriting. Irfan is already working on some zoom bugs reported elsewhere.

Options for everything is not always the best solution. There are already too many options in my view. The number of support questions that show people don't know what options are already available would bear this out.

If resampling could resample the viewed area of the image, instead of the entire image, then resampling the zoomed to area becomes a viable proposition.

            1. Ok, scrollwheel zooming is more convenient than keypad, true.

            2. Yep, sometimes it's very slow when zooming. I got the lockups too, as well as the bugs mentioned on the forum.

            3. I agree there are too many options already. I just hope your last point becomes reality in the future because it increases the viewing quality a lot. And I think resampling would be a lot faster because then it only needs to resample the viewed area, not the whole image like now when you press + or - or with scrollwheel zoom. But I read in your post that's not possible yet, I'll keep my fingers crossed though ...
