Area selection is colored, how do I change it to the old ways?

For some time now (and a few versions) when I select an area of an image, the countour of the area selection is colored and quite often it merges with some of the colors of the image, making it impossible to see where it ends.

It wasn't like that in old versions like v4.20, for instance, so I tried using that version but it remained colored and I can't figure out what's causing that. It's even weirder because I see that behavior in linux as well (running irfanview with wine) with default program settings. I checked setting by setting but found nothing related to that. I remember a time when this area selector used to be silver-ish or something like that, I want that silver-ish color back.
I even downloaded the latest version 4.60, hoping that this would eliminate the problem, but it didn't.

Settings, Editing, Selection border size. Increase to 2 or 3.

The colour of the selection border depends on the background against which it is drawn.

Thanks. Now that I found the setting (following your instructions), I simply disabled the coloring of the selection, it returned to the old style, so there was no need to increase its size - it's perfectly visible the way it is - colorless.
