    Slideshows not working

Hello. I have a small batch of slideshows I rarely use from one or two XP computers ago. I now have a windows 10. A random mix of these slideshows do not work while others open up just fine. I just get "THIS APP CANT RUN ON YOUR PC. To find a version for your PC find the software publisher." I tried compatibility mode and that does nothing. Is there a simple solution for this?

Also get to this message: Windows cannot find ***.exe make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again

You could try rebuilding the slideshows in IrfanView 4.60.

Thanks for the reply. These are exe files and I've never been able to make changes once I saved them out of Irfanview. I can't seem to get into the files in any way. I'm assuming since many of them work fine some must have gotten corrupted during copying. New PC and all. Have been searching for prescribed methods of repair but I really don't know which way to approach this since its an exe and not a system file.

Try the free archiving utility 7-Zip. If it is a valid archive, you may be able to extract the images.

7-Zip is one of those tools that everyone should have in their toolkit.

7 zip says it is an Unsupported 16 bit Application. Cannot start or run due to compatibility issue with 64 bit versions of Windows. I have noticed one of the slideshows looks like it should work but tells me it was created with non compatible irfanview plugin version. Something told me to download the latest plugins but I don't know where I just saw this. If I have time later I think I will try to run these in an old laptop I need to dig up. It all sounds like 32 bit to 64 bit nonsense

The shortcut E will extract all images from a running slideshow. See Help, Hotkeys for more.

Can you provide an example file?

The forum will not allow you to upload Executable files, but if they are not more than 1.91 Mbytes, they can be archived and uploaded as a Zip or 7-Zip archive. Otherwise, post a link to DropBox, Wetransfer, etc.

Ok I found a solution...sort of. I found an older drive that had the slideshow folder on it. They slideshows were all there and they all worked, so I decided to simply copy them to the desktop of my current PC. I'm amazed at the file size of some of these irfanview slideshows. Anyways, after it got done copying I noticed the very last slideshow in the list was absent. I went back to the original folder and copied that one slideshow only. Immediately upon pasting it told me no and something about a virus of program it did not like, but then that whole slideshow was erased from the original drive. So I loaded the other drive I had where that particular slideshow was working fine and I tried to copy and paste it and the same thing happened. My PC unilaterally erased every trace of that particular slide show from every drive I had it on. This is not a big loss as most of these were experiments from some time ago but this is kinda unsettling. Since when does a PC erase files without asking you?

What antivirus software are you using?

Antivirus programs are paranoid when encountering uncommon exe files. Your files were probably automatically moved to quarantine.

Just the native Windows Defender. Yes it does look like they were quarantined by Windows for a trojan. Suggestions?

Open Windows Security, then Select Virus & threat protection, then Protection history, there you should see the files which were identified as viruses.

A trojan by the name of Script/Wacatac.B!ml is the culprit. If I remove this will it destroy the slideshow file?

This is most likely a false positive. Restore the file, extract its contents and create a new one.

Ahh about that. I have been trying to extract things from any of these shows but I cannot figure out how. I just keep getting NO for one reason or another. Do you have a step by step way of doing this?
