Solved Editing text in captions

I am a professional genealogist and use IrfanView to view and save historical record images specifically because I can add a source citation to the front of an image. I sometimes need to edit a citation--for example, to update the date I last checked the image online after saving it years ago--but can't find a way to do that. What are the options? Is there a way to copy the original citation and paste it into the "insert text" box to edit it? Or do I have to retype the entire citation, which can be lengthy.

Short of using OCR to read the text, you will have to retype it. It is easy to clear the old text if it is on a plain background, by using copy and paste of a selection.
