Hi Sam
Can I add this one to your list of tutorials: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ax9u8_ZOb9U
I've just added it onto YouTube and thought some people may find it useful.
I'd be interested in knowing what you think as it's the first ones we've really done of these.

Sure you can add this, it's great.
I understand that this is a production to cover lots of options of IV in one take, so maybe for beginners it goes a bit fast.
This has great potential in explaining things beside an HTML-page, so I wonder :
How did you manage to construct this FLV-file, which tools were involved in this process ?Last edited by Sam_Zen; 29.05.2008, 05:01 AM.

I'm having a look at your tutorial (in particular at the IrfanPaint section, obviously ), and I find it quite impressive: the explanations are clear but accurate, really a great work, I may link it in the manual of IrfanPaint.
By the way, there are some imprecisions:- page 31, paragraph 3.2.3, red box on the top of the page; the points 2 and 3 are wrong, if you save an image or change tool the backup image used by the eraser is preserved. The backup image is updated only when IrfanView alters completely the image, reallocating it somewhere else in memory. This happens usually when a new image is loaded, or when the current one is changed in size or color depth (note that one or both things happen when you rotate an image).
- Page 31, paragraph 3.2.5, the promised screenshot is missing.
- Page 32, paragraph 3.2.7
To remove the just-drawn line, Right-Click the mouse. - Page 33, paragraph 3.2.11, red box
Tolerance can be changed from the value 0 (at which point the Floodfill Tool will not fill) - Page 33, paragraph 3.2.13; I'd have described the tool and its use a bit more deeply, considered how you explained extensively even the simplest tools.
- Page 34, paragraph 3.2.17; the (i) button doesn't show the version of IrfanView, but the version of IrfanPaint, i.e. the painting plugin. They are quite different (IV 4.25, IP 0.4.13.67).
For the buttons without tooltip, thank you for pointing it out, it should be a small bug that I'll fix in the next version.
If you want to send me the extended version of the IrfanPaint section of the guide I'll be glad to have a look at it too.
---EDIT---
The tooltips problem was visible with IV+IP executed under Wine, but on Windows XP there's no problem, and I don't see flaws in the tooltip code... do you confirm that on your machine some tooltips aren't shown?Last edited by MItaly; 14.10.2009, 10:29 PM.IrfanPaint developer
The latest stable IrfanPaint version is the 0.4.13.70.
IrfanPaint is now open-source (released under BSD license).

This looks great, and will be in heavy demand I suspect.
Originally posted by WellOiledPCI have written an 80-page Tutorial for IrfanView 4.25, available at either of the following two links:
You could save yourself a lot of bandwidth by reducing the PDF file size. I opened the PDF in PagePlus and published it to the Web Normal profile (150 dpi graphics), and the file size was reduced from 3.25 Mbytes to 1.74 Mbytes. No doubt you could do a lot better, working from the original source files. Before you post ... Edit your profile • IrfanView 4.67 • Windows 10 Home 19045.2486

This is a bit misleading, since the line isn't drawn yet; the right mouse click just aborts the line creation process before it completes. - Page 33, paragraph 3.2.11, red box
This is slightly wrong, tolerance 0 fills only the pixels nearby the clicked pixel with exactly the same color of it. - Page 33, paragraph 3.2.13; I'd have described the tool and its use a bit more deeply, considered how you explained extensively even the simplest tools.

For some reason, I was unable to log into the IrfanView Forum for nearly a week - was able to log in just today...
You are totally welcome to use the Help Manual in any way you want to! I'll look at each point you have mentioned and correct them at the earliest! Cheers!

The files seem to be identical, at least in file size, so why the different names? People will download them both, thinking them to be different documents.

Yes, the files are 99.99% identical - the version on my website only has a few cosmetic changes. Hopefully people will not download from both locations - both Irfan and I have stated clearly that the other link is an 'alternative download...' Your point is valid though, I shall rename my version so that it is identical in name to the version on irfanview.com.
There are about 500 downloads in a month from my website, guess (and hope!) it is a lot more from the Irfanview website...
Initially, I used PDF995 to create the PDF, but found that the links (neither the Table of Contents or the website links) work. So finally, I used the 'Save As PDF' feature in Office 2007, which is probably why it is double in size. Will try PagePlus, if the links work, I'll use it for the next version!

Here, in fact:

I realize this is the way IrfanView works so cannot blame IrfanPaint, but can anyone suggest a way of getting the original original back in to the undo buffer when this happens?
I am getting to the point of forbidding them to use Undo at all.Originally posted by MItaly View PostYour point is right, I too had some troubles with this behavior; I'll fix it in the next version.

You're right, I completely forgot, probably because now I work almost always on Linux and I use IP rarely. Re-added on the TODO list.
Anyhow, the problem is not so simple to solve, because all IP can see is that the internal DIB is replaced with another one, and this can happen for many different reasons (e.g. the ones that I posted before).Last edited by MItaly; 23.10.2009, 01:20 PM.IrfanPaint developer

Well, the Domain no longer belongs to me, can't stop new content being put in, by the new owners...
Now that the Lite Manual has been upgraded to the latest Version 4.42, I do hope users will download it, rather than Version 4.25's Manual!
Problem is, the e-Mail I used to create my former ID was one from my earlier Domain and so, I cannot verify my ID, if any Authentication mail is sent to it... I have used a Gmail ID for this one, having got wiser now!--- Push the Envelope... lest it push you out!! ---
